The stuff we are taking

A bit of thought went into the bikes and gear for this trip. The idea was to adapt the approach of this guy (link) he is awesome but also a little nuts. Our aim was to travel light but have enough gear to allow us a bit more comfort and allow us to occasionally mix with civilians.

GEAR

My Bike and stuff:
On-one pompino steel SS frame with v-brakes. Baby blue. I like to think of her as a Hunter horse, even though I've never ridden one.
28mm Specialized heavy duty slicks, on hand build wheels (Phil wood hubs and CXP33 rims).
Brooks blue saddle.
42t and 16t and 18t white industry SS freewheels, to allow 65 and 60 Gear inches.
Compression backpack strapped on.
Front handlebar bag (el-cheapo from amazon that I'm dubious about)
Pump, tyre boots, puncture repair, spokes and…etc

Nancy’s Bike:

Semi-custom Condor road bike (custom in that it has eyelets).
Hand built wheels (ambrosia on ultegra hubs), with 25mm schwabale marathon tyres.
Standard rear rack.
12L waterproof compression sack (no-name brand brought from second hand store).

In terms of clothes and stuff we decided to avoid lycra, given the heat (pretty much a consistent 30 every day of the year, the only thing that varies is the amount of rain) and social conventions in the region.  Aceh has some areas that conform to Shiaria Law, which basically requires people to cover up.

Update on gear:
wish I'd brought a lycra top
crock sandals at crap so far (that may change)
handle bar bag has its moments.
nancy has upgraded to 25L bag which is working well on the rack
Bikes generally feel good loaded up.
